Insurance mostly involve huge amount of money, that's why a lot of people go out of their way to make a claim. There are those who would fake accidents like burning their own car or house or even injuring themselves just to qualify for an insurance claim. This calls for an insurance investigator.

Insurance investigators conduct investigations into to validated a certain insurance claim. They are tasked to check the scenes of accidents and other incidents to determine causes and effects, interview witnesses and prepare statements, work out who is responsible for the accident, damage or loss, and interview the person making the claim to obtain the information required to assess the validity of the claim. In some cases, they work undercover to gather information to perform surveillance and put together photographic evidence vital to the establishment of an insurance claim validity.

They work both outdoors and indoors in investigating claims and doing the associated paperwork. They sometimes need to drive to the claimant's location. An insurance investigator must be able to pay attention to detail and has sound judgement. Good communication skills and aptitude numbers and calculations and computer works are also required.
